RED DEER, Alta. – Zak Smith scored the go-ahead goal at 16:33 of the third period as the Red Deer Rebels came from behind to beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Red Deer and Brandon entered the night tied for the second wild-card spot in the East with 68 points. The win moved the Rebels into the first wild card, while the Medicine Hat Tigers dropped to No. 2, with the Wheat Kings still sitting on the outside of the playoff picture.

Brandon Hagel, Cameron Hausinger, Josh Tarzwell and Oleg Zaytsev also scored for the Rebels (32-25-6), who trailed 3-0 before scoring five unanswered goals.

Ben McCartney, Stelio Mattheos and Chad Nychuk had goals for the Wheat Kings (30-26-8).

Ethan Anders kicked out 17 shots for Red Deer as Jiri Patera turned away 26-of-30 shots for Brandon.

The Rebels went 0 for 2 on the power play while the Wheat Kings were 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Brett Leason and Parker Kelly had a pair of goals apiece and Ian Scott only had to make 14 saves as the Raiders dealt Swift Current its 16th straight loss.

Cole Fonstad had a goal and two helpers while Brayden Pachal, Noah Gregor and Spencer Moe also scored for Prince Albert (52-9-4).

Isaac Poulter kicked out 40-of-48 shots for the Broncos (10-47-6).

WARRIORS 3 PATS 1

REGINA — Justin Almeida had a goal and an assist as Moose Jaw downed the Pats.

Carson Denomie and Brayden Tracey also scored while Brodan Salmond made 19 saves for the Warriors (36-19-8).

Max Paddock stopped 30-of-32 shots as Ty Kolle found the back of the net for Regina (18-43-3), losers of five in a row.

HURRICANES 5 TIGERS 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Carl Tetachuk turned away 28 shots as the Hurricanes beat Medicine Hate for their fifth consecutive victory.

Taylor Ross, Jordy Bellerive, Zachary Cox, Dylan Cozens and Nick Henry supplied the Lethbridge (37-18-10) offence.

Baxter Anderson and Brett Kemp replied for the Tigers (32-26-6), who got 26 saves from Jordan Hollett.

OIL KINGS 5 HITMEN 1

CALGARY — Trey Fix-Wolansky and Vince Loschiavo each had two goals and an assist as Edmonton extended its win streak to seven games by toppling the Hitmen.

Quinn Benjafield also scored while Dylan Myskiw turned aside 24 shots for the Oil Kings (38-18-8).

Mark Kastelic kept Calgary (36-23-6) from being blanked. Jack McNaughton stopped 27 shots in a losing cause.

BLAZERS 2 ROCKETS 1 (SO)

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Dylan Garand made 26 saves and Orrin Centazzo scored the winner as the Blazers edged Kelowna to snap a four-game skid.

Martin Lang scored in regulation for Kamloops (24-32-7).

Nolan Foote scored for the Rockets (27-30-7). Roman Basran had 32 stops in defeat.

WINTERHAWKS 3 COUGARS 2

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Joachim Blichfeld set up two goals before scoring the winner at 14:51 of the third as Portland handed the Cougars a fifth straight loss.

Joel Hofer turned away 40 shots while Jake Gricius and Josh Paterson also scored for the Winterhawks (39-19-6).

Cole Moberg and Matej Toman had goals for Prince George (17-40-8). Taylor Gauthier made 24 saves in a losing cause.

Igor Martynov scored while Brock Gould stopped 30 shots for the Royals (33-27-4).

CHIEFS 4 GIANTS 1

SPOKANE, Wash. — Jake McGrew scored twice as the Chiefs halted Vancouver’s point streak at seven games.

Filip Kral and Jaret Anderson-Dolan also scoredand Bailey Brkin made 37 saves for Spokane (36-20-7).

Alex Kannok Leipert scored for the Giants (45-15-4), who were 6-0-1 on their run. Trent Miner made 20 saves in defeat.

SILVERTIPS 3 AMERICANS 0

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Dustin Wolf stopped 25 shots to improve his league-leading goals-against average to 1.68 as Everett blanked Tri-City.

Reece Vitelli, Wyatte Wylie and Connor Dewar supplied the goals for the Silvertips (46-14-4), who are 7-0-1 in their last eight.

Beck Warm kicked out 33-of-35 shots for the Americans (34-26-4).
