Drivers with plans to travel along the westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 early Thursday afternoon will need to take an alternate route.

Elgin OPP reported Thursday morning that officers would close the lanes of the highway and put an Emergency Detour Route (EDR) in place near Col. Talbot Road beginning at 11 a.m.

The closure will allow crews to remove a tractor trailer from the highway’s centre median near Mill Road.

Officers say drivers are asked to follow EDR signs that will indicate they should travel south on Col. Talbot Road and then west on Hwy. 3 to rejoin Hwy. 401 by using Union Road.

The OPP says the westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 will be closed for approximately two hours to allow crews to remove the tractor trailer.
