On Jan. 27, officers responded to 911 calls reporting that a woman had been attacked by dogs in the Saddle Ridge neighbourhood at around 12 p.m.

When officers arrived at 52 Street and 88 Avenue N.E., they found a woman in her 60s suffering from serious injuries, bite marks and lacerations to her body.

A later investigation revealed that the victim had been walking in the area when she was approached by a large black dog. When she attempted to flee, she fell to the ground, police said. That’s when the dog attacked and was joined by two other dogs in the melee, according to police.

EMS said they took the victim to the Peter Lougheed Centre in non-life-threatening condition with numerous serious soft-tissue injuries. She was later released, police said.

A spokesperson with the City of Calgary said in January, all three dogs involved in the incident had been seized and were undergoing an assessment by Community Standards. Seven fines have been issued in relation to the dogs, according to spokesperson Kaila Lagran — three for animal attack causing injury, three fines for running at large and one fine for an unlicensed dog.

The dogs still remain in the city’s custody, police said on Wednesday.

After a public appeal for witnesses on Jan. 30, several people came forward, police said.
