Captain Marvel‘s Rotten Tomatoes page is already full of angry, negative reviews for the movie which is set to be released in theatres on March 8.
Many people are upset about Captain Marvel star Brie Larson advocating for a more diverse film criticism community during an interview for the March 2019 issue of British Marie Claire.
Larson spoke out on the “overwhelmingly white male” representation among film critics.

One Rotten Tomatoes review read: “why Marvel decided to cast a very vocal racist and sexist aimed at white males, I’ll never know.”
“As a white male i dont think Brie would want me watching this movie,” a Rotten Tomatoes user named Nigel B wrote.
“Brie larson has already said this isnt for me.i’ll spend my money elsewhere,” user Kevin H wrote.

“Larson has made it clear…men need not attend this movie,” another person wrote.
User Sean B wrote: “This weird random made up super hero looks like Homer Simpson. Not interested.”

Last June, Larson spoke at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards, spotlighting how white males can’t always be the appropriate audience to review every single film.
“I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about A Wrinkle in Time,” Larson said. “It wasn’t made for him! I want to know what it meant to women of colour, biracial women, to teen women of colour.”

“Am I saying I hate white dudes? No, I am not. What I am saying is if you make a movie that is a love letter to women of colour, there is an insanely low chance a woman of colour will have a chance to see your movie, and review your movie.”
“It really sucks that reviews matter — but reviews matter,” she said. “Good reviews out of festivals give small, independent films a fighting chance to be bought and seen. Good reviews help films gross money, good reviews slingshot films into awards contenders. A good review can change your life. It changed mine.”

When the movie opens on March 8, Captain Marvel will be Marvel Studios first female-led film, something critics say was long overdue.

Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. It also stars Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Clark Gregg, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Mckenna Grace, Robert Kazinsky, Annette Bening, Vik Sahay, Colin Ford, and Chuku Modu.
Captain Marvel will be released on March 8.
