York House School is asking for more support from Vancouver police after a man allegedly exposed himself to a student.

The all-girls private school emailed parents on Tuesday, saying an unidentified man driving a black vehicle approached a student and exposed himself near the school in the area of Marguerite Street and West 32nd Avenue.

In a message to parents, a school official said, “this is a matter we take very seriously” and the school has asked police for “increased support in addressing this matter.”

This follows similar incidents last year.

In December, investigators said one of the students noticed a man sitting in a dark-coloured sedan near the intersection of Laurier Street and Alexandra Street, and she saw him exposing himself when she walked past.

The man then drove away, police said.

In a bulletin to parents at the time, the school said the incident shared similarities to another case that happened in October.

Vancouver Police are unclear if the incidents are all connected.

Sergeant Jason Robillard said, “We do have reports of other incidents in the area in the last couple months dating back to October but we haven’t linked them all together but we are looking at them and they are still under investigation.”

Robillard said they’ve beefed up their presence near York House school.

“We’ve increased our patrols in the area and we’re continuing to work with other partners in the area and our school liaison officers have been in direct contact with the school and other people in the area, as well as our youth squad and our patrol officers,” said Robillard, “we’re doing things such as witness and video canvassing in the area and we’re doing a lot of things behind the scenes.”
