Some fees for information checks, collision reports going up: Calgary police

The Calgary Police Service will be increasing some of its user fees for 2019.

Employment police information checks, record suspension police information checks, occurrence summary reports and collision reconstruction reports will all see an increase in charges, the police service said in a news release Thursday.

The CPS said the increases are due to increased in demand and having to hire extra help.

“The employment police information checks fee increase will maintain a turnaround time of 10 business days as the service increases the number of positions available to process these requests. Otherwise, the processing time for these checks could increase to between 15 to 20 business days,” said Amanda Welfare, manager of the Police Business Operations Section.

Police said by increasing fees, they won’t have to go to city council to ask for more money. Police added fees haven’t been increased in over 10 years but the number of requests keep growing every year.

“All the new fees and processing times are in line with other national policing agencies and Calgarians will still pay less for these services than most other jurisdictions,” said Welfare.

The changes take effect April 1.
