Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes on Tuesday.
In a statement issued around 3:30 p.m., Environment Canada says snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 centimetres is expected for Peterborough, northern Peterborough County and in the City of Kawartha Lakes (Lindsay and Fenelon Falls areas).
Snow will begin Tuesday morning with strong easterly wind gusts of up to 70 km/h which could create blowing snow and reduced visibility.
“This snow is associated with a Colorado low that will cross southern Ontario Tuesday and Wednesday,” the statement reads.
Environment Canada says to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations,” the statement reads.
“Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.”

Officials with the Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario (STSCO) say they will wait until Tuesday morning to make a decision on school bus transportation.
“We will be waiting until morning and, if there is need to cancel, the decision will be made and posted online between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.,” said Joel Sloggett, STSCO CAO.
