It has been a rollercoaster week for weather — but at least Environment Canada has now lifted the warning of a flash freeze for the Greater Montreal area.
Flash freeze warnings are issued when a rapid drop in temperature is expected, causing rain or melted snow on streets and sidewalks to quickly freeze over.

The public weather agency issued the warning on Tuesday after a wave of warmer weather melted a lot of the ice and snow in the city, causing a cocktail of ice and water, to submerge the streets and sidewalks.

“Every winter — December through February — we have about five days with significant rainfall and temperatures above zero,” said Alexandre Parent, a spokesperson for Environment Canada.
“So far, we have had 10 of these and there’s another one coming for Friday. So, we more than doubled the amounts of these types of events.”

Montrealers can still expect a chilly night after a warm day, however. It will feel like -22 overnight.
With the precarious weather conditions, Environment Canada has asked drivers to be careful on the roads.
