Fire heavily damages Purolator distribution centre in Bathurst, N.B.

A Purolator distribution centre in Bathurst, N.B., has been heavily damaged after a fire on Saturday evening.

The Bathurst Fire Department told Global news that they responded to the facility, located at 840 Riordon Dr., at approximately 11 p.m.

When they arrived the building was already “totally involved.”

“We were on scene until 5 AM, with 4 units and 22 firefighters,” the Department said in a statement.

Captain Joe Wiseman told CBC New Brunswick that he believes the facility is a total loss, even though the structure is still standing.

No one was inside the building and no one was hurt, he said.

The department said that there is an ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire involving the Bathurst Fire Department, Bathurst Police Department and the Office of the Fire Marshall.

A request for comment with Purolator Canada was not to returned by press time.
