Fraser Health has closed a herbal clinic in Surrey after traces of lead and mercury were found in its products.
It started when a customer was prescribed pills from A1 Herbal Ayurvedic Clinic at 128th and 84th streets.
The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) says that person then started to feel sick. When further tests were done, traces of lead and mercury were found in their system.

Tom Kostasky with the BCCDC says the clinic has now been shut down by Fraser Health.
“We would advise all people who were taking medication from that clinic to stop taking it, if they’re feeling fine they can just throw out that medication, get rid of it, if they’re not they should see their physician,” he said.
Kostasky adds lead poisoning can lead to serious health complications, including death.
He adds neither naturopathic, nor medical doctors work at the clinic.
“Unfortunately, sometimes those medications contain harmful ingredients, and I think the feeling in those by practitioners is a little bit of the harmful stuff might ultimately do you good,” Kostasky said.
If you think you may have lead or mercury poisoning, the BCCDC says you should see a doctor immediately.
