Metrolinx has an early Valentine’s Day present in store for its Kitchener customers.

The agency announced Monday that the 4:50 p.m. express train from Toronto to Kitchener will return on Feb. 13.

“Our customers are telling us the 4:50 p.m. express service is a crucial service for our customers,” Metrolinx CEO Phil Verster said.

The train had been shelved when Metrolinx made changes to its schedule to bring a train that once ended in Brampton all the way to Kitchener.

While there was an extra train coming to Kitchener, there was not an extra train on the line on Jan. 7. Videos emerged quickly of commuters stuck in dangerous situations on overcrowded platforms and being jammed into overcrowded trains.

Verster also apologized to passengers for the debacle that his customers underwent.

“We are going to make much better preparations this time around to make sure everyone understands what trains have changed in length size and platforms,” he said.

Metrolinx has not announced any plans for a corresponding train for the morning commute.
