Emergency crews prepared for soggy spring in Saskatchewan

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – The largest emergency management and fire safety base in Saskatchewan is preparing for what is expected to be a very soggy spring.

Although it is hard to determine exactly what might happen as the snow melts, crews are prepared for a worst-case scenario.

Workers at the facility are currently loading semis with millions of sand bags to deploy to affected areas.

The logistic base also has a state-of-the-art communications vehicle which can go on-scene and houses up to four crew members.

Officials are also advising property owners to take precautions be removing snow from around basements, making sure gutters are clear and downspouts are moving water away from structures.

As well, animal feed and harmful chemicals should be moved to higher ground to prevent any environmental impacts.
