Pedestrian in life-threatening condition after being hit by vehicle in northwest Calgary

A woman in her 50s has been transported to the hospital in serious, life-threatening condition after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred in the northwest community of Mount Pleasant in the area of 26 Avenue and 5 Street N.W. at around 7:10 a.m., police said.

Police Sgt. Colin Foster said a southbound Ford F150 was turning on to 26 Avenue N.W. and hit a woman who was walking her dog.

The woman suffered serious head injuries and is being cared for at the Foothills Hospital, he said.

The dog survived the ordeal, Foster added.

WATCH: Our Global1 helicopter was over the scene of a collision involving a pedestrian in the northwest community of Mount Pleasant Wednesday.

The driver stayed at the scene, and speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash, he said.

Foster added that there were no witnesses, but officers are asking anyone who may have heard or seen anything to please contact police.
