Arrest made in Grande Prairie after person ‘possibly armed and barricaded in a residence’: RCMP

An arrest has been made and police say charges are pending after RCMP officers in Grande Prairie, Alta., responded to a “lone male, possibly armed and barricaded in a residence” on Monday.

Police provided the update early Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, police said officers were at the scene of “an unfolding event on 65 Avenue in the Countryside South neighbourhood” and asked people to stay away from the area. People already in the neighbourhood were asked to stay indoors.

However, police said the public was not believed to be in any danger.

Traffic was rerouted in the area for several hours.

Police said officers initially responded to a disturbance at the residence at 1:48 a.m.
