‘Unfitting’ Scott Road businesses driven out by jacked up licence fees

Delta’s mayor doesn’t like the look of one stretch of road, and she’s pushing a plan to improve it.

It’s one of the city’s busiest roads, lined with tattoo parlours and sex stores and Lois Jackson wants to see more up-scale offerings.

A good idea to many residents, except the business owners, who say they’re being forced out by exorbitant increases in the city’s feed.

Those businesses will now pay a whopping $3,500 in annual business licence fees, up significantly from a couple hundred dollars.

It has to do with a new by-law the municipality has adopted to make Scott Road more family friendly, targeting certain businesses deemed unfit for the area.

Making them pay more, with the hope of driving them out.
