The incident happened around 1 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the highway near Courtney Park Drive between Highway 403 and Highway 401.

Peel paramedics said they transported a man to a trauma centre without vital signs. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said a Honda Accord was located in a ditch and the man, identified as Jason Ramkishun from Brampton, was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

“We know around 1:30 a.m. the OPP was dealing with a single car into a ditch,” Const. Harinder Sohi said.

“The investigation later revealed that the car had been struck by bullets and the 23-year-old male inside was shot and killed also.”

Police said they are trying to piece together where exactly the shooting took place.

“We’re now trying to figure out where this happened. So we know the car ended up in the ditch,” Sohi said.

“If you were in the area of the 410, 401 or Courtneypark this morning around 1:30 a.m., we’re asking people to give us a call and let us know what you saw.”

Investigators are appealing for dashcam video or witnesses who were at the scene of the collision to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at -905-453-2121, ext. 3205 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
