18-year-old dies in east-end Toronto shooting

Toronto police say a 18-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries following a shooting in east-end Toronto.

Police said officers responded to a call at 1:41 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Birchmount Road and Bonis Avenue, north of Sheppard Avenue East.

He was taken to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries by paramedics. Police later said the victim died in hospital.

No other injuries have been reported. Area schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Police said they’re looking to speak with three friends who were with the victim at the time of the shooting.

Officers have not released a suspect description.

The Toronto police homicide squad was called in to take over the investigation.
