Body found near Guelph’s downtown core: police

Guelph police say the body of man was found near the downtown area on Thursday morning.

Someone made the discovery at around 7:30 a.m. on the bank of the Speed River near Wellington and Arthur streets, police said.

Officers were seen blocking off a pathway and rail bridge, along with the eastbound curb lane of Wellington Street.

Police said it’s still early in the investigation and they’re still gathering information surrounding the cause of death and the identity of the man.

“We treat all deaths as suspicious until our investigation says otherwise,” said Const. Josh Fraser.

Police are asking anyone with information or who in the area to call the lead investigator at 519-824-1212 ext. 7226.
