CALGARY – Three historic lions that once stood watch over Centre Street Bridge could soon be sitting along the West LRT.
A city committee will consider incorporating the lions into the required public art along the line.
The lions date back to 1917, but were removed from the Centre Street Bridge and replaced by replicas during refurbishment in 1999.
Since then, one of the lions has been installed at City Hall, but the three others remain in storage.
It’s not known how much it would cost to fix up and move the originals to the West LRT.
The lions were modeled after the lions from Trafalgar Square in London, England.
