To say it’s not for the faint of heart might be the understatement of the year.

Some local construction workers recently posed for photos — showing not only the great view of Edmonton they have every day at work, but also the dizzying heights they scale to get the job done.

The photos posted on social media on Thursday show several ironworkers on top of steel beams at the top of the under-construction Stantec Tower in downtown Edmonton.

“You’ve seen it from below. Now take a look from above. Check out these photos of the ironworkers from BTA’s affiliate, Local 720, atop the tallest skyscraper west of Toronto,” the post by Building Trades of Alberta said.

“When you’re constructing the tallest building in Western Canada, you need the very best skilled trades workers you can find. That’s why Local 720 ironworkers were chosen to complete the crown structure/penthouse of Edmonton Stantec Tower,” the post went on to say.

When complete later this year, the Stantec Tower in the Ice District will be 66 storeys, or 251 metres, tall.

The building will serve as the world headquarters for the engineering and design firm it is named after.

Stantec is the tower’s designer, engineer and project manager, and will occupy 19 floors. Employees will begin moving into their new headquarters in the fall.
