Man airlifted from head-on crash near Drayton

Wellington County OPP say a man has been airlifted to hospital following a head-on crash northwest of Guelph, near Drayton.

Police said a pickup truck collided with a tractor on Wellington Road 12 on Friday afternoon.

The driver of the pickup, a 51-year-old man, was taken from the scene by ORNGE Air Ambulance in life-threatening condition.

A female passenger was taken to a local hospital. Her injuries are not known.

The driver of the tractor was not hurt.

OPP are reminding drivers to take their time on the roads over the long weekend.

“We really need people to drive safe,” said Const. Josh Cunningham, who added the cause of the collision is still under investigation. “It’s the beginning of a long weekend and we’re already off to a bad start.”

Police said Wellington Road 12 is expected to be closed between Wellington roads 7 and 8 for several hours.
