It was a hot summer night in 1991, and MC Hammer has just finished his set at Peachfest.

Out on the streets, teen angst boils over into a full blown riot, and, in the ensuing rampage, a Penticton Icon is trashed.

The Penticton Peach — a landmark in the city for more than 40 years, at that time — was low-hanging fruit for rioters who rolled it right into the lake.

The way The Peach was treated that night was the pits.

Twenty-seven years later, The Peach incident maybe somewhat fuzzy for some, but now a new Facebook post from The Peach Ice Cream Shop is trying to recognize these people for the fruits of their labour.

Diana Sterling of The Peach Ice Cream Shop said what happened 27 years ago is OK, and for those who were involved should visit The Peach and have a chat over a ‘Crazy Shake.’

The post is already blossoming online, with 300 shares, 20,000 views and more than 150 comments, with some people tagging friends or even parents who may or may not have been there, the night that The Peach was rolled into the lake.

That post can be found here.

Sterling assures that this is no trick and it’s all in jest; there’s no cold case looking to bring these fugitives to justice.

In fact, the only thing cold here is the ice cream, and it’s all about The Peach and the community getting some closure.
