The Royal Canadian Air Force helped OPP evacuate a camper from Puzzle Lake Provincial Park on Tuesday morning.
A search and rescue crew flying an RCAF CH-146 Griffon helicopter was deployed from CFB Trenton to assist OPP in locating a camper who fell ill.
The camper was in a remote lakeside area of the provincial park, located about 150 kilometres east of Peterborough (or 60 kilometres north of Napanee).
The camper’s companions called emergency personnel. OPP then requested 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron to airlift the patient to hospital due to the challenging terrain and remote location.
Due to tall trees and strong winds, two SAR technicians were hoisted onto a small beach.
“We had to hoist in about 100 feet due to the tall trees that covered most of the area,” stated Master Cpl. Phil Graham, a SAR technician. “We met up with the patient and his fellow campers and put him in a rescue litter for evacuation.”
The patient was flown to Kingston General Hospital for further treatment.
