The 11th floor of Red River College‘s Paterson GlobalFoods Institute will soon boast some state-of-the-art toys, tools and facilities thanks to the help of a $1 million grant.
The Canada Foundation for Innovation made the announcement Wednesday, which is one of 11 grants doled out to research institutes and colleges.
The new facility will include equipment to do sophisticated food work to develop food products, fermentation products and do sample prep, which all require state of the art facilities, said RRC president Paul Vogt.
“These facilities are available to the surrounding businesses and start-ups, people who are interested in partnering with Red River on the development of new food products,” he said, adding the college has partnered with more than 40 different products with local food and agricultural producers in Manitoba.
The new facility will open in about a year, he said, and was designed by the LM Architectural Group. The grant makes up about one-third of the total cost of $2.7 million.
When complete, the new centre will have a fully-equipped commercial kitchen, a second modular-style kitchen, an analytical and culturing lab, multi-purpose space and a specialized food photography room.
