A Peterborough woman has written a book about her journey through treatment for breast cancer in the hopes others on similar paths will find it useful – Jul 20, 2018

After finding an abnormality on her breast in 2014, Barbara Mills booked an ultrasound.

Two days before her appointment, on a lark, she saw a psychic who read her palm. The psychic said she could see a health problem for Mills involving hormones and urged her to get it checked out.

“So two days later, I had it checked and it ended up being Stage 3 breast cancer with a 52 per cent chance of survival,” says Mills.

And this is where Mill’s book, I am a Warrior, begins. She always wanted to write a book but didn’t think it would be about her fight with breast cancer.

After six chemotherapy sessions, 25 radiation treatments and a double mastectomy, Mills wants others to be prepared for what happens next because she was not.

“I went through a depression when I finished all my treatment… It’s terrible to say but it gave me purpose to continue to get up in the morning and do the appointments and to the chemo, you had a goal you had to accomplish,” says Mills.

I am a Warrior is available in both electronic and paperback editions from Amazon.ca.
