Aggie Mlynarz announces campaign for Mayor of Guelph

Former Provincial NDP candidate Aggie Mlynarz has announced her intention to run for Mayor of Guelph in the upcoming municipal election.

The 28-year-old University of Guelph masters student made the announcement Friday in a press release. She said she is running on a platform of environmental sustainability and the elimination of financial waste.

The release makes mention of Guelph moving into its largest phase of new development and how Aggie believes that citizens deserve a bold and visionary leader who puts community interests first.

Aggie will be at Guelph City Hall at 9 a.m. on Monday to officially register and kick off her campaign, as she goes head to head with incumbent Mayor Cam Guthrie.

Immediately following the official meeting with the city clerk, Aggie will be speaking to supporters and members of the press.

Prior to Aggie’s announcement, Guthrie was running unopposed in the vote.

On June 7, Mlynarz came in third place in the vote for a spot in the Ontario legislature with 13,928 votes (21.57 per cent) placing just behind Progressive Conservative Ray Ferraro at 14,084 votes (21.81 per cent) and now-Guelph MPP and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner, with 29,082 votes (45.04 per cent).

Next Friday is the last day to file nominations for office or to withdraw a nomination.

The Municipal Elections take place Oct. 22.
