A body was found in Lac Saint-Louis in Beaconsfield on Thursday evening after a 18-year-old man went missing earlier in the day.

Urgences-santé said it’s not yet confirmed if the body belongs to the kayaker who fell into the water, but added that an operation is underway to pull the body out of the water.

The fire department, meanwhile, has also ended its search operation in the area.

Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Beaconsfield Boulevard and Shore Road.

After the man fell into the water, witnesses say several people tried to help, but they were not able to reach him.

“We saw a guy, his kayak flipped over and he was yelling help,” said Sarah Racine, who saw the scene unfold.

“He was screaming that for a long time and then he just stopped.”

Urgences-santé said they received a call early in the afternoon about the kayaker.

Montreal police were also on hand to help with the search efforts.
