A year-long investigation into organized crime in central Alberta has resulted in the seizure of $250,000 in drugs and cash, as well as five firearms.
On June 21, The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) arrested two suspects and laid 57 charges as part of Project Rails.
During the investigation, ALERT seized two handguns, two shotguns, an SKS rifle and a body armour vest. Police said they also found 1.2 kilograms of cocaine, 2.3 kilograms of cannabis, 2.3 kilograms of cannabis resin and 240 millilitres of cannabis oil.
Investigators said they also seized $39,000 cash proceeds of crime.
Police said one of the handguns had its serial number removed, while the other was a prohibited revolver-type handgun. The rifle had a drum magazine.
