Ottawa police are still investigating after a man’s body was found Friday morning in the Rideau River, close to Bordeleau Park in Lowertown – but officials now say the death is “not deemed suspicious at this time.”

When contacted Friday afternoon, a police spokesperson said investigators are still working to identify the man and no further details are available.

Around 8:40 a.m., Ottawa Fire Services said water rescue crews were headed to the eastern tip of the park, off Bruyère and Forsey streets, in response to reports of a person “visible in the water.”

Firefighters confirmed five minutes later they were calling off the rescue and that Ottawa police would be managing the scene.
