Driver killed in 2-vehicle collision near Stony Plain

A 56-year-old woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash west of Edmonton on Thursday morning.

Stony Plain RCMP said the crash happened on Highway 16 and Range Road 13 at around 10 a.m. when an SUV was struck by a pickup truck that was trying to turn east onto the highway.

Police said the SUV was also travelling east when it was hit.

RCMP initially said the woman, who was driving the SUV, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Later Thursday afternoon, police said the woman died of her injuries.

There were two other people in the vehicle – a 26-year-old woman and a girl under the age of 12 – who were both taken to hospital with minor injuries, RCMP said.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

No charges have been laid at this time, although the collision is still under investigation, RCMP said.
