If your daily commute involves the Honoré Mercier Bridge, linking Montreal to Châteauguay, you may want to change your route.
Starting 10 p.m. Friday until August 20, half of the bridge’s span will close for a construction blitz.
The provincially-owned side is 30 years older than the federal, requiring structural and steel work.
The Montreal-bound side of the bridge will have one lane in each direction.
The Airlie Street entrance to Route 138 and the Mercier Bridge will also be closed during construction, with a detour via Lafleur Avenue and Clement Street.
Buses will still have access to the reserved lanes.
Transports Quebec warns drivers to plan ahead and use other bridges to travel to-and-from the island.
Complete closures of the work site are possible for several nights or weekends throughout the summer as well.
