A motorcyclist was heading south on the Henday, approaching the Yellowhead, when he struck the animal crossing the east and west lanes at around 1:30 a.m., police said.

It’s believed the driver lost control of the motorcycle and sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.

The 36-year-old man was treated on scene and taken to hospital but died from his injuries a short time later.

Police continue to investigate to determine whether speed or impairment were factors in this collision.

Police closed exit 25 for several hours but all southbound lanes of the Henday and Yellowhead were open as of 10:30 a.m.
