Winnipeg Police are investigating after two people were found dead inside a home in Charleswood.

The call came in around 9 p.m. Monday night from a concerned resident in the area, asking officers to check the well-being of those inside the house at 625 Buckingham Road, next door to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

When they arrived, they found two adults dead. The identities of the victims have not been released.

Police consider their deaths suspicious. The Homicide Unit is investigating.

Neighbours said they didn’t know the people who lived in the home well.

“They’re super quiet neighbours. Don’t even know their names, but they go for runs, they wave, they  smile,” said one woman who lives across the street and did not want to be identified.

“They do yard work for the church, they just go for their runs. Nice people, strange neighbours. We’ve been here for 20 years, they’ve been here the whole time.”

The neighbour said she arrived home from work around 10 p.m. Monday to find a commotion outside her house.

“My neighbours here said they heard (a man) crying in the front yard, hysterically, collapsing to the ground.”

A number of kennels were also brought into the house by Animal Control Services and the Winnipeg Humane Society.

“Police requested the Winnipeg Humane Society to remove animals from the residence,” a spokesperson said. “The animals are in our care and we’ll provide them with the attention needed for as long as required.”

Police have not provided any more details surrounding what happened. Investigators wearing white coveralls could be seen walking between the house and an identification truck throughout the morning Tuesday.

A man arrived at the scene shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, getting out of his car while fighting back tears. He was consoled by a woman before he talked to police for about ten minutes, then got back in his car and left.

“We know all the neighbours, but we don’t know them,” said Maureen Kaiser, who lives down the street. “When you get older, you don’t get to know all the neighbours like you do when your kids are young.”
