Calgary police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a pickup truck driver after colliding head-on with semi-truck on Highway 22X early Tuesday morning.
The investigation began at around 1:15 a.m. when police were called to a home in the Copperfield neighbourhood after reports of a woman needing medical attention.
“Upon arrival, officers located the female, who is believed to have been the victim of a domestic assault,” police said in a release issued on Tuesday afternoon.
About 15 minutes later, police said they were called to the scene “of a fatal collision involving a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle.”
Police said it is believed that after leaving the Copperfield residence, the driver of a white pickup truck was involved in the head-on collision with the semi-truck on Highway 22X near 104 Street S.E.
“It is believed that the white pickup truck, which had been travelling east on Highway 22X, crossed the centre line into the path of the oncoming semi-truck,” police said.
The pickup truck driver died on scene and the semi-truck driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said.
As of about 10 a.m., Highway 22X was reopened to traffic.
Police said that it will not release any more information on the investigation “as the collision is believed to be related to the earlier domestic matter.”
