Two women taken to hospital after being hit by train in Chilliwack

Two women were taken to hospital Tuesday after being hit by a train in Chilliwack.

It happened in the 51000-block of Yale Road around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A Canadian Pacific train travelling westbound on CN tracks near the Yale crossing struck the two women.

Patrick Waldron with CN Public Affairs says the two victims were taken to hospital.

They were transported to hospital by B.C. Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Chilliwack RCMP says the women were hit by the train while trying to get their dog who ran on to the tracks.

Unfortunately the pet succumbed to its injuries.

“Railway lines are on private property. RCMP remind pedestrians it is dangerous to walk on or near tracks,” says Cpl. Mike Rail, spokesperson for the UFVRD in a release.
