Highway 1A west of Calgary, Alta., near Morley Road, was shut down after a fatal single vehicle collision Saturday night.
EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux said the crash happened at around 4:55 p.m., and that one person was dead.
“STARS was called to the scene but they were stood down,” Brideaux said.
In a news release, RCMP said both east and westbound traffic was being rerouted while crews dealt with the situation.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area or expect delays.

At 6:50 p.m., 511 Alberta said in a tweet a local detour had been set up.
The intersection of Highway 1A and Morley Road is approximately 60 kilometres west of Calgary.
Meanwhile, first responders were also called to a two-vehicle crash near Innisfail on Highway 590 and Range Road 260.
Brideaux said two people were killed in that crash but he did not provide further information.
Cochrane RCMP asked people to avoid the area and said traffic would be rerouted for several hours.
