Man struck, killed by vehicle in Etobicoke during power outages identified as Schreiber, Ont. fire chief

A Northern Ontario township is mourning the loss of their fire chief after he was struck by a car in Etobicoke overnight Friday.

Chief Pat Bourguignon, 63-year-old from Schreiber, Ontario, is dead after he was struck while crossing the road in the area of Attwell Drive and Dixon Road.

In a press release from the township of Schreiber it said Bourguignon was “attending the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs annual conference in Toronto when he was struck and killed during a power outage.”

“Pat was an amazing man and passionately dedicated to his family, his work as a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 34 years and Schreiber’s Fire Cheif since 2009,” it said.

Police said Bourguignon wasn’t crossing at a controlled intersection and the lighting in the area was poor due to power outages.

The driver remained on scene and no charges have been laid. Bourguignon was pronounced dead on the scene.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been determined.
