Spring runoff flowing over several roads and streets and drainage ditches running at capacity have prompted an emergency alert for a small northwestern Alberta community.
The Village of Rycroft, about 500 kilometres northwest of Edmonton, says in a statement on its website that water levels were expected to keep rising on Monday.

It says basement flooding and sewer backups are possible and residents should do what they can to minimize the amount of water flowing into the sewage system.
The RCMP has been going to door to door to find out if residents need assistance, while drivers are being urged to stay off flooded streets.

Roadblocks have been set up at three locations.
Culverts are open and working but a statement from the Central Peace Regional Emergency Management Agency says a large volume of water is travelling across land and drainage ditches are at capacity.
