Hydro Ottawa crews had their work cut out for them as an unseasonable ice storm made its way across the city early Monday morning.
As of 12 p.m. Monday, Hydro Ottawa reported that there were over 150 outages reported in the area with over 22,000 customers without power. On Limebank Road in the south end of the city 18 hydro poles were taken down by the ice.
“Hydro Ottawa crews are working to restore power initially to large-scale outages, followed by smaller ones, keeping safety a number one priority amid these icy conditions,” said Hydro Ottawa CEO Bryce Conrad in an email. “Hydro Ottawa wishes to thank its customers for their patience and understanding as restoration efforts are underway.”
Hydro Ottawa has reported that it will most likely take until Tuesday morning to restore power to everyone in the city even with all available crews working.
Not only were buses cancelled due to the weather, but several schools across the city were closed due to power outages caused by the storm.
