Grade 1 student pens letter to never-ending Edmonton winter: ‘Winter is ruining people’s lives’

It’s April 13. You roll out of bed, open your window to what you hope will be a sunny, spring morning. But if you woke up in Edmonton on Friday morning, that certainly wasn’t the case.

People in the capital region once again saw a fresh blanket of snow Friday, in what’s proving to be a never-ending winter for the area.

Edmonton even broke a record for consecutive days with the temperature slipping to or colder than 0 C. Thursday night was officially the city’s 167th consecutive day with the temperature falling below 0 C. For the record, that’s more than six months.

The snow was enough to send at least one Grade 1 student over the edge, penning the following letter to “Mr. Winter.”

“I really like doing things in winter but I am ready for spring,” the student wrote on Friday.

“Because winter is ruining people’s lives.

The very frank observation was shared by many on social media, where users also took out their weather anger on Friday.

The good thing is, the temperature warmed up by Friday afternoon, melting away much of the fresh snow. But don’t get used to it. Global Edmonton meteorologist Jesse Beyer warns there is a chance Edmonton could possibly see 10-20 centimetres of snow on Monday and Tuesday.
