Two decades ago, Dylan Fiddler lost six family members in a crash at Armley Corner, where Highway 335 and Highway 35 meet. It’s this rural Saskatchewan intersection where the Humboldt Broncos bus crashed on Friday, killing 15 and injuring 14.
The news of the most recent crash that took so many lives left Fiddler in a panic.
“How could this happen to these young guys?” he asked.
It wasn’t until later that he heard of the location of the accident, and it brought back memories of devastation.

“There’s no words to describe what has happened,” Fiddler says. “I barely got any sleep last night.”
When Fiddler was only six years-old, his mother, aunt, uncle and three cousins died after their car collided with a semi in 1997. Fiddler and his older brother were not with the rest of the family at the time of the crash.
According to RCMP, the half-ton pickup Fiddler’s family was in ran a stop sign when the semi hit them. Like in Friday’s crash, the driver of the semi also survived the collision.
Fiddler moved to Kingston five years ago, and now works at Wesco.
He says after the most recent crash, he feels like action is necessary.
“I feel that something should happen at that intersection. Especially with all the families affected, it’s so troubling,” he said.
