A 34-year-old man Vancouver man has been arrested after a tense, day-long standoff with police in the city’s West End.
It all started around 4 a.m., when officers were called to a disturbance at an apartment on Hornby near Drake Street. When police arrived, they found two men and a woman along with “a quantity of drugs and a firearm,” according to a Vancouver police media release.

But as police were making arrests, one of the men allegedly fled.
Officers were able to track the man to his residence on Beach Avenue, near Hornby Street.
Police called in a negotiator, along with more officers and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) who secured the area nearby.

Around 11:30 a.m. a woman came out of the building with her hands up and was put in handcuffs. Police now say she was not arrested, she was just detained, and she will be released from custody.
It wasn’t until around 8 p.m. that police were able to gain entry to the man’s home, where he was allegedly found hiding.
Police said the man, along with the a 29-year-old Coquitlam man and a 25-year-old Whistler woman arrested at the original location, remain in custody.
