Gas price war in Vernon

While most gas prices in the province are creeping up because of the new carbon tax, Vernon is approximately 20 cents cheaper than the average.

According to GasBuddy.com, several of Vernon’s gas stations are at 116.9 cents per litre, just a penny above Prince George’s Costco, the lowest in the province.

The average price around Vernon is 118.9 cents per litre, according to the website.

Drishdpreet Monga, a manager at Hunter’s store, said the business is simply following suit with what other stations are charging.

“It’s very competitive,” he said.

Monga said to fill up soon because he’s not sure how long it will last.

“It’s going down here, so customers are pretty happy for now,” he said. “But when it goes up, it goes up.”

Kelowna’s average price per litre is 131.9 cents, according to the GasBuddy. Vancouver is much higher at 154.5 cents per litre.
