At about 6:30 a.m., police responded to a report of an altercation along the 1600 block of Scenic Drive South involving two men.

On Thursday, police said a 32-year-old man had driven a woman to a friend’s apartment. When they got there, police said the man was confronted by a 30-year-old man armed with a knife, leading to a verbal then physical altercation.

Officers said the older man disarmed the younger man, then stabbed him multiple times before driving “a short distance” away from the scene and calling 911.

Both men were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The older man was treated and released, while the younger man remained in hospital Thursday in serious but stable condition.

The 23-year-old woman who had accompanied the older man was found to have outstanding warrants and was arrested at the scene.

Lukus Stewart, 32, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault. He was released from custody with conditions and is scheduled to return to court on March 29.

Global News spoke with a resident Wednesday who said a similar incident has happened at the apartment before.

“I was thinking, ‘Oh my god,’ because this happened last year and a gentleman did get stabbed in here,” Dawn Medwid said. “So right away you go back to, ‘Oh no, could this be happening again?’”

Medwid heard loud noises coming from nearby her apartment early Wednesday.

“I heard a lot of banging around in the halls,” Medwid said. “So I went to go see if there was anybody out in the halls. At that time, I found a young girl rummaging through her stuff, or trying to put it back in bags.”

About 30 minutes later, Medwid noticed more activity.

“There was major units of police vehicle here monitoring the situation,” Medwid said. “At that time, the man was hauled out by police and the fire department.”
