A fire broke out at the Econo Lodge hotel on Taschereau Boulevard around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Flames destroyed the roof of the building before firefighters could control the fire.
Twenty-five hotel guests and staff were able to escape prior to emergency services’ arrival.
“We have a fireman that is being checked by the medic right now,” said Jean-Guy Ranger, spokesperson for the Longueuil fire department.
“But it is not a big thing.”
The Association des Pompiers Auxiliaires de la Montérégie was on scene with a bus to provide support to the victims.
Taschereau southbound was closed to traffic during rush hour.
