A Mississauga resident faces charges after assaulting a Peterborough police officer early Saturday morning.
Peterborough police were called to a bar on Charlotte Street around 1:40 a.m. after reports of an unwanted and intoxicated patron.
“After numerous negative attempts at calming the patron and advising the patron to leave the premises as requested by staff at the establishment, the patron was arrested under the Liquor Licence Act with public intoxication,” said police spokesperson Lauren Gilchrist.
The individual was transported to the police station where an assault took place, police said.
“While at the police station the person struck an officer,” Gilchrist said.
Lovelyn Mariki, 23, of Brandon Gate, Mississauga, is charged with assaulting a peace officer. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 29.
