12 Olympic-sized pools of snow! Edmonton’s latest snowfall by the numbers

People in the Capital Region woke up to the area’s third major snow event of the year on Saturday morning and accumulated snow has kept Edmonton city crews busy this week.

A seasonal parking ban was issued and was in effect from 12:01 a.m. Monday to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The ban is put in place so that snow removal equipment can properly clear the major and collector roads.

During the ban, vehicles parked on designated parking ban routes may be tagged and towed.

So, in terms of snowfall amounts and road-clearing work, how did this latest storm stack up?

31,606 – The amount of snow (in cubic metres) city crews removed

12 – The number of Olympic-sized swimming pools that amount of snow would fill (!!!)

180 – The average number of pieces of equipment on Edmonton streets at all times

45,674 – The amount of snow city crews removed (in cubic metres) during Edmonton’s second major snow event of 2018

23,000 – The amount of snow city crews removed (in cubic metres) during Edmonton’s first major snow event of 2018

679 – The number of seasonal parking ban violations issued on March 5

319 – The number of seasonal parking ban violations issued on March 6

24 – The number of vehicles towed during the parking ban

20 – 25 – The amount of snowfall (in centimetres) that accumulated in the Capital Region between Friday and Saturday

-16 – The coldest temperature reached (in degrees C) in Edmonton (on Sunday)

10 – The amount of snow (in centimetres) required before the city puts a parking ban in place

100,000 – The amount of snow (in cubic metres) Edmonton crews have removed in the first three major snow events of 2018
