Transports Quebec is planning some major roadwork on the Island of Montreal, announcing it plans to spend more than $1 billion between now and 2020.

Quebec Transport Minister André Fortin explained his department is always looking for new ways to improve the condition of the roads.
“We want to make sure that our highways, yes, are safe, that the structures are safe, but that they’re comfortable also. Increasing our investments like we’re doing today is part of that.”
There will be 63 construction sites across the city, including 10 major road projects like the ongoing Turcot Interchange and the rebuilding of access ramps and overpasses between Highway 13 and Autoroute 40.

New paving will also be done on the Metropolitan Expressway and Highway 40 between the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge and the exit at Saint-Charles Boulevard in Kirkland.
“We’re looking at new products and concrete is one of them,” said Fortin.
“That ideally, we do want to use as much as we can. The investments are a lot higher.”

In addition to the province’s construction blitz, the City of Montreal has also budgeted millions of dollars to fix the streets.
