A 39-year-old male suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of his 25-year-old girlfriend in Mississauga has been found and charged with first-degree murder, police say.
Peel Regional Police said officers, along with members of the Toronto Police Service, arrested the suspect just before 7:45 p.m. Monday.
The arrest happened at a McDonald’s restaurant at Dufferin Street and King Street West.
Police said the shooting happened earlier in the day, at around 5 a.m., near Rathburn and Dixie roads.
Peel Paramedics said the female victim was located outside a townhouse complex with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified by police as Alicia Lewandowski.
Police said the suspect, Joseph Chang, a resident of Toronto, was believed to be driving a black Infiniti with the Ontario licence plate number CAXM 834.
The vehicle with the same licence plate was also seen at the McDonald’s where the arrest happened.
Police have not released any details regarding the motive of the shooting.
Chang is scheduled to appear in a Brampton court on Tuesday.
