Officer-involved shooting in Strathcona County sends man to hospital

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Strathcona County early Sunday morning.

RCMP in Strathcona County said they received a call to assist Emergency Medical Services at a home near Sherwood Park, where they were responding to a call of a man with a self-inflicted stab wound.

“For safety reasons, the paramedics waited outside the home for the officers,” ASIRT said on Monday. “While in the home, three officers discharged their service pistols, striking the man.”

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital in Edmonton in serious but stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

ASIRT is called to investigate incidents involving Alberta law enforcement personnel that result in serious injury or death as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
